Estar for Beach Conditions

Beach talk is a non-stop drill of estar (temporary states):

  • "A água está fria." (The water is cold.)
  • "O mar está calmo / agitado." (The sea is calm / rough.)
  • "Está muito calor hoje." (It's very hot today.)

Weather with "Estar" and "Fazer"

Both verbs describe weather, with slightly different habits:

  • "Está sol." / "Está vento." (It's sunny / windy.)
  • "Faz muito calor em agosto." (It gets very hot in August — general truths take fazer.)

Ir + Infinitive: Beach Plans

The easiest future tense in Portuguese — just conjugate ir (to go):

  • "Vamos à praia amanhã?" (Shall we go to the beach tomorrow?)
  • "Vou nadar." (I'm going to swim.)
  • "Vamos tomar banho!" (Let's go for a swim!)
